Ezetrol
Ezetrol - Action of :
Ezetrol contains the active ingredient, ezetimibe which has a different mechanism to the other cholesterol lowering agents currently available. It works on the lining of the small intestine to reduce the absorption of cholesterol from food and recycled cholesterol in bile (a yellowish, thick fluid which helps to absorb fats). This reduces the stores of cholesterol in the liver and causes an increase in the removal of bad cholesterol from the bloodstream. This differs to other drugs such as statins which decrease production of cholesterol by the liver and bile acid binding resins which promote bile excretion. Due to the different mechanism of action, Ezetrol adds to the cholesterol lowering effects of these drugs when it is used in combination.
