Actonel - Basic Information

 

Indication of Actonel:

-Risedronate is used in the following situations -Treatment of Pagets disease -Treatment of osteoporosis -Treatment of corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis -Prevention of corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis

Action of Actonel:

Risedronate prevents further loss of bone and allows new bone to be formed, increasing the bone density.

Dose Advice of Actonel:

Pagets disease 30 mg once a day for 2 months Treatment and prevention of corticosteroid-induced osteoporosis 5 mg once daily Prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis 5 mg once daily Kidney function impairment: The dose may need to be reduced in patients with kidney impairment and should be avoided in those patients with severe kidney function impairment. Risedronate should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Common side effects of Actonel:

-Nausea -Vomiting -Diarrhoea -Aching joints -Headache -Muscle aches -Bone pain

Uncommon side effects of Actonel:

-Inflammation and ulceration of the oesophagus -Gastritis -Inflammation of the tongue -Eye irritation -Rash -Heart failure -Kidney function impairment
