Adenoscan - Basic Information

 

Indication of Adenoscan:

Adenosine is given to convert rapid, abnormal heart rhythms (tachycardia) back to normal rhythm. It is used in conditions such as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.

Action of Adenoscan:

Adenosine slows electrical conduction through the heart slowing the rate of the heart and restoring a normal heart rhythm.

Dose Advice of Adenoscan:

Adenosine is administered by rapid intravenous bolus injections followed by a rapid saline flush. The initial dose is 3 mg given over two seconds. If this has no effect within one or two minutes a 6 mg should be given. If one to two minutes later no effect is seen 12 mg should be given.
