Bicor - Basic Information

 

Indication of Bicor:

Bisoprolol is used in the treatment of stable chronic moderate to severe heart failure. It is used in combination with other medication such as ACE inhibitors, diuretics and cardiac glycosides.

Action of Bicor:

Bisoprolol blocks beta-1 adrenoceptors in the heart and by doing this is reduces heart rate, reduces cardiac output and lowers the blood pressure.

Dose Advice of Bicor:

Patients with stable chronic heart failure should be being treated with optimal doses of an ACE inhibitor, a diuretic, and possibly a cardiac glycoside before bisoprolol is considered as a treatment option. The dose of bisoprolol is gradually increased over weeks starting at 125 mg once daily to a maximum of 10 mg once daily. The dosage the patient takes should the dose prescribed to them by their doctor.When first staring treatment the patient needs to be monitored closely in case any side effects occur. Side effects may also prevent a patient from being treated with the maximum recommended dosage.Treatment with bisoprolol is generally long-term and it is recommended that bisoprolol is not stopped abruptly as this may lead to temporary worsening of the patients heart failure.
