Bupivacaine is used for pain management in the postoperative setting and other situations where therapeutic pain blockade is required It is used for a number of different types of anaesthesia including: - infiltration anaesthesia (where it can be injected directly into the site where the procedure will occur)- peripheral sympathetic nerve anaesthesia- epidural anaesthesia- surgical anaesthesia- obstetric anaesthesiaDue to its long duration of action, Bupivacaine is especially useful in situations where long acting anaesthesia is needed
