Caelyx - Basic Information

Action of Caelyx:

These are natural products originally derived from bacteria (Streptomyces species) Due to their ring structure the compound belongs to a large group of highly coloured bacterial products called rhodomycins. (Doxorubicin is coloured red and this colour is not lost when the body metabolises it so when excreted it remains red) Doxorubicin has a wide spectrum of antitumour activity, it is used in both solid and haematological (blood) tumours. Doxorubicin will damage skin and surrounding tissues if accidentally spilt on or injected into them.

Schedule of Caelyx:

S4
