Indication of Capastat:
Capastat is used in conjunction with other drugs in the treatment of tuberculosis (TB) when the primary agents used for this condition (isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol, aminosalicylic acid and streptomycin) have been unsuccessful or cannot be used because of toxicity or resistance. Studies of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolated from the patient should be performed to ensure it is susceptible to Capastat before treatment is started
Action of Capastat:
Capastat is an anti-tuberculosis agent that has been derived from another bacteria, Streptomyces capreolus. By a mechanism that is not fully understood, it is active against the bug that causes tuberculosis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
