Indication of Carbamazepine-BC:

Carbamazepine is used in the following conditions: EpilepsyTrigeminal neuralgiaGlossopharyngeal neuralgiaManic episodes in patients with Bipolar disorder (manic depressives)Prevention of bipolar disorderTo relieve certain types of pain

Action of Carbamazepine-BC:

Carbamazepine acts on nerve cells causing them to become more stable and fire off impulses less frequently. It also reduces the levels of certain chemicals in the body.

Dose Advice of Carbamazepine-BC:

EpilepsyAdults: The initial recommended starting dose is 100 mg twice dailyThis dose may be gradually increased by 100-200 mg every 2-4 weeks depending on the patients individual response to treatmentThe usual dose ranges from 400 mg-1200 mg per dayDoses of up to 2 g per day may be required in some patientsElderly patients: 50 mg twice daily Children: The initial recommended dose is 5-8 mg/kg daily given in two divided dosesThis dose may be gradually increased up to 10-20 mg/kg daily Trigeminal neuralgiaThe initial recommended starting dose is 50-100 mg once or twice dailyThis dose may be gradually increased up to 400-800 mg daily given in 2-4 divided doses. Doses of up to 16 g per day may be required in some patients Neuropathic painThe initial recommended dose is 100 mg twice dailyThis dose may be gradually increased until pain relieved The usual dose ranges from 200-600 mg per dayThe dose should not exceed 12 g per dayMania and bipolar disorderThe initial recommended dose is 400 mg daily in divided doses This dose may be gradually increased up to 1600 mg daily depending on the patients individual response to treatment
