EpiPen - Dose Advice of :
Adrenaline is available in an auto-injector as Epipen and Epipen Junior. EpiPen is intended for use in adults or children with bodyweight greater than 30kg whereas Epipen Junior is recommended for children weigh between 10-20kg. In severe reactions, more than one injection may be required Each Epipen is used only once. The dose may be repeated every 5 to 15 minutes if symptoms have not subsided or recur. However, medical attention should be sought even after the symptoms have subsided as it is not designed as a replacement for appropriate medical care.Epipen injection should be given into the anterolateral aspect of the thigh. Accidental injections into hands, feet, ears, nose, buttocks or the genitalia require immediate medical advice as it may result in the loss of blood flow to the affected areas.Epipen or Epipen Junior has relatively short shelf life and should be stored as directed Exposure to light should be avoided It should be stored at 250C and not to be removed from its original container until use. Prior to use, the colour of the adrenaline solution in the auto-injector should be observed to ensure it is not brown, discoloured or contains precipitates. The device should be disposed into a sharps disposal unit after use.
