Zyban SR - Dose Advice of :
Dose information: Zyban tablets should be swallowed whole , not chewed or crushedYour first prescription of Zyban tablets orders for a quantity of 30 tablets which should last more than 2 weeksThe usual starting dose is one (150mg) tablet daily for the first 3 days.This dose then increases on the fourth day to one (150mg) tablet TWICE daily.Please ensure that theres at least an 8 hour interval between the 2 doses.It is important that you visit your doctor to obtain a second prescription which allows you to get 90 tablets, before your tablets from the first prescription runs out.Unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise, you should continue at a dose of one (150mg) tablet twice dailyYou are still allowed to smoke when you commence Zyban treatment, however you should set a "target date" to stop smoking preferably in the second week of treatment. This is because Zyban takes about a week to become effective.The usual duration of treatment is for at least 7 weeksDo not use other nicotine replacement therapies e.g. nicotine gum or patches etc unless under medical supervision.Only use as directed by your doctor.Contraindications: If the following applies to you and you have not advised your doctor, please do not commence Zyban treatment as it may not be the best treatment for you. Please consult your doctor immediately.Known allergies to the ingredients used to make Zyban tabletsYou have a seizure disorder (or a history)You have a brain tumourIf you have or have been diagnosed with an eating disorder in the past e.g. anorexia or bulimiaYou have also taking a medication known as the monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have taken it within the last 2 weeksPrecautions: If the following applies to you and you have not advised your doctor, please do not start Zyban treatment until you have done so. There may be extra precautions you have to take to ensure Zyban is effective and safe for you.If you usually consume large amounts of alcohol but you plan to stop drinking during treatmentYou have suddenly stopped taking sedatives or plan to do so while you are on ZybanIf you are on any other medications especially medications for a psychiatric disorder, antidepressants, antihistamines that make you drowsy, oral steroids or have had a history of head traumaKidney and/or liver diseaseBipolar disorderYou are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnantYou are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeedIf you are unsure about whether the list applies to you, please consult your health professional for more advice.Pregnancy: Category B2It is not known if Zyban can be used safely in pregnant women. Hence, it is not recommended for use during pregnancy.Please consult your doctor as there may be a better alternative. Lactation: Because Zyban has been reported to be found in breastmilk, it is not recommended for mothers to breastfeed while taking Zyban tablets.Please consult your doctor as there may be a better alternative.
