Indication of Enbrel:
Etanercept is used in the following situations: Treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis in adults who have had an inadequate response to other anti-rheumatic agents.Treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis in combination with methotrexate in adults who have not responded to methotrexate alone.Treatment of active polyarticular juvenile chronic arthritis in children 4-17 years who have had an inadequate response to other anti-rheumatic agents.Treatment of active and progressive psoriatic arthritis in adults who have had an inadequate response to other anti-rheumatic agents.Action of Enbrel:
Etanercept acts by blocking an agent known as tumour necrosis factor. Tumour necrosis factor in normally found in the body and is responsible for producing normal inflammatory and immune responses. In patients with rheumatoid arthritis tumour necrosis factor is found in increased concentrations in the joints producing excessive inflammatory and immune responses. By blocking tumour necrosis factor the effects of rheumatoid arthritis can be alteredDose Advice of Enbrel:
Rheumatoid arthritis in adults: 25 mg given subcutaneously twice a week, with three to four days between doses.Psoriatic arthritis in adults: 25 mg given subcutaneously twice a week, with three to four days between doses.Juvenile chronic arthritis in children aged 4-17 years: 0.4 mg/kg to a maximum of 25mg, given subcutaneously twice a week, with three to four days between doses.Etanercept should be avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.Schedule of Enbrel:
