Indication of Ephedrine Sulfate Injection (DBL):
Shock, hypotension (low blood pressure), bronchospasm (airway spasm, eg. Asthma)Action of Ephedrine Sulfate Injection (DBL):
Ephedrine sulfate causes the release of a hormone called noradrenaline and it also stimulates hormone receptors in the body to increase the effects of noradrenaline on the body. Stimulation of these receptors causes a rise in blood pressure by constricting the blood vessels and increasing the amount the heart pumps with each beat. Ephedrine sulfate also opens up the airways and stimulates the heart to beat. Aside from the above effects, Ephedrine sulfate can both stimulate the nervous system and relax muscles in the bladder, bowel and uterus.Dose Advice of Ephedrine Sulfate Injection (DBL):
Doses of Ephedrine sulfate will usually be injected by your doctor. Ephedrine sulfate may be injected just below the skin (subcutaneously), into the muscle of your upper arm, thigh or buttock (intramuscularly), or into a vein (intravenously). A typical dose is 25-50mg for adults (or 3mg per kg per day divided into 4-6 separate doses for children) intramuscularly or subcutaneously or 10-25mg intravenously. The intravenous route is typically used when a rapid response is necessary (eg. If the patient is in shock and the blood pressure is too low). The doctor may need to administer the medication several times.Schedule of Ephedrine Sulfate Injection (DBL):
