Gaviscon

Indication of Gaviscon:

Used for symptomatic relief of problems caused by reflux of gastric contents: Heartburn (including heartburn of pregnancy) Dyspepsia Reflux oesophagitis Hiatus hernia.

Action of Gaviscon:

The main ingredient in Gaviscon, alginic acid, works as an anti-reflux agent. It reacts with the acid found in the stomach to produce a frothy layer over the stomach contents, which then prevents reflux. The sensitive mucosa of the oesophagus is no longer exposed to gastric acid and the pain associated with these conditions is relieved Continued use of Gaviscon and ongoing prevention of reflux allows the damaged tissues to be repaired

Dose Advice of Gaviscon:

Each different preparation can be taken 4 times a day, once after each meal and once 30 minutes before bedtime. Gaviscon liquid (aniseed or peppermint) and Gaviscon P liquid: Liquid preparations can be taken as they are or diluted in an equal quantity of water. Adults and children >12 years: 10 to 20 ml four times daily. Children between 6 and 12 years: 5-10ml four times daily.Gaviscon relief tablets (lemon or peppermint): Tablets are to be chewed, it may be easier to break them in half and chew them. Follow with a drink of water. Adults and children >12 years: 2 tablets four times a day. One dose may be 4 tablets if necessary.Children between 6 and 12 years: 1-2 tablets four times a day.
