Indication of Havrix 1440, Havrix Junior:

Used to immunise against hepatitis A virus (HAV). Havrix Junior is for use in children 2-15 years, and Havrix 1440 is for use in adults and children > 15 years.HAV immunisation is especially recommended in the following individuals: Travellers to areas of intermediate or high HAV endemicity (Africa, Asia, India, the Pacific Islands, the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East, Central and South America).Armed forces personnel travelling to higher endemicity areas, or areas where hygiene is poor and the risk of contact with HAV is increased Person at increased risk of occupational transmission (e.g. daycare centre workers; teachers & close contacts of intellectually disabled children; health workers & teachers in remote Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities; healthcare workers in contact with patients in paediatric wards, infectious disease wards, emergency rooms and intensive care units; sewerage workers; food handlersHomosexual men, who may transmit the disease sexually.Close Contacts of infected personsIndividuals with chronic liver disease and liver transplant patients.Recipients of blood products

Action of Havrix 1440, Havrix Junior:

Pharmacology.Havrix causes immunity by causing the production of antibodies against the hepatitis A virus. Immunity lasts for greater than 5 years, an maybe up to 20 years. A booster given 6-12 months after the first dose increases the length of immunity.Havrix is very effective, leading to antibody production in about 90% of patients after 15 days, and 99% of patients after 1 month. It prevents infection in 94% of patients.

Dose Advice of Havrix 1440, Havrix Junior:

Adults (> 16 years)A single dose of Havrix 1440 (1 mL) is used for primary immunisation. Protective effect can be prolonged with a single booster dose, 6-12 months after the primary dose.Children, Adolescents (2
