Indication of Imtrate SR:
- The drug is used for the prophylactic (preventative) treatment of angina pectoris (chest pain as a result of poor oxygenation to the heart)
Action of Imtrate SR:
- Isosorbide mononitrate causes venous and arterial dilatation and thus reduces workload on the heart- End diastolic pressure and volume is reduced in the heart , hence intramural pressure (inside the heart tissue) is also reduced which improves subendocardial blood flow- The net effect of isosorbide mononitrate is an improvement in oxygenation of the myocardium and a reduced workload on the heart- The way in which nitrates dilate blood vessels is not yet completely understood but it is thought that they are a substitute for the endogenously derived endothelium derived relaxing factor (EDRF) which is though to be responsible for vascular relaxation
Dose Advice of Imtrate SR:
- Imtrate SR is isosobide mononitrate in a sustained release formulation- Dosing should begin at one 60mg tablet daily- The dose may be increased if necessary to two tablets daily (taken at the same time)
