Indocid - Basic Information

 

Indication of Indocid:

Indomethacin is used in the treatment of: Active Rheumatoid arthritisOsteoarthritis.Ankylosing spondylitis.Gout.Sprains and strainsBursitis, tendinitis, synovitis, and shoulder capsulitisLower back pain (lumbago).Following orthopaedic surgery, fractures and dislocations to reduce inflammation, pain and swelling.Period pain.

Action of Indocid:

Indomethacin inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins which are involved in pain, inflammation and fever. By inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis indomethacin is effective in relieving pain, swelling and other symptoms and signs of inflammation.Although indomethacin will relieve symptoms it will not alter the course of the underlying disease.

Dose Advice of Indocid:

The recommended dosage of Indomethacin is 50 to 200 mg daily and this should be adjusted depending on the patients response to the medication.Patients with persistent night pain or morning stiffness should take 100 mg at bedtime.Gout: 150 to 200 mg per day is given until all symptoms have stopped Period Pain: 25 mg three times a day is given from the onset of cramps or bleeding and is continued until the symptoms cease.

Nausea and vomiting.IndigestionAbdominal pain.Irritation of the stomach lining.Stomach ulcers.Impairment of kidney function.Diarrhoea.Constipation.Headache.Dizziness and light-headednessFatigue.Loss of appetite.

Uncommon side effects of Indocid:

Salt and fluid retention.High Blood Pressure.Gastrointestinal ulceration: Ulcers can develop in the oesophagus, stomach, or intestines and may bleed Heart palpitations.Chest pain.Changes in vision.Hearing disturbances.Flushing and sweating.Nosebleeds.Enlarged, tender breasts.Drowsiness.Anxiety.Fainting episodes.Allergic reactions including skin rashes and hives.
