Infanrix HepB - Basic Information

Indication of Infanrix HepB:

Infanrix Hep B is used in the active primary immunisation of children over the age of 2 months against: -diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (whooping cough)-hepatitis BIt is also used for the required booster doses for these diseases at age 18months.

Action of Infanrix HepB:

Infanrix Hep B is a combined vaccine against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and hepatitis B. As with all vaccines the components, once in the body, stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies against them. In the event of future infection with the microorganisms, the body is able to mount a rapid immune response and the person does not develop the diseases. The various components of the vaccines are isolated from their respective microorganisms and detoxified and purified The vaccine resulting from these preparations cannot be 100% protective, but studies have shown >95% protection from diphtheria and tetanus, 89% from pertussis and >96% from HBV.

Dose Advice of Infanrix HepB:

Infanrix Hep B is for intramuscular injection. It must not be injected intravenously. The recommended site is the front of the thigh. The vaccine should be shaken well and used immediately after opening. Infanrix Hep B is not appropriate for use at birth. A monovalent hepatitis B vaccine (eg H-B-Vax II) should be used at birth, with Infanrix Hep B being administered at 2, 4 and 6 months of age. A booster is required at 18 months of age.
