Indication of Infant Gaviscon:
Infant Gaviscon is used for the treatment of reflux and regurgitation in infants and young children.
Action of Infant Gaviscon:
Infant Gaviscon contains two alginate salts, which act as anti-reflux agents. They react with the acid found in the stomach to produce a frothy layer over the stomach contents, which then prevents reflux. The sensitive mucosa of the oesophagus is no longer exposed to gastric acid and the pain associated with these conditions is relieved Continued use of Infant Gaviscon and ongoing prevention of reflux allows the damaged tissues to be repaired
Dose Advice of Infant Gaviscon:
Do not use over the advised amount. Prepare quantities as below and use immediately: Breastfed infants Under 4.5kg: one sachet Over 4.5kg: two sachets Place mix in a glass, add 5ml cooled boiled water and mix into a paste. Add a further 10ml of water and feed to baby with a spoon after each feed Bottlefed infants Under 4.5kg: one sachet, shaken with at least 120ml of each feed in the bottle. Over 4.5kg: two sachets, shaken with at least 250ml of each feed in the bottle.Young children Two sachets, prepared with at least 250ml of water or milk and drunk after each meal.

Common side effects of Infant Gaviscon:
There have been minimal side effects associated with use of Infant Gaviscon, providing the dosing advice is followed carefully.
Uncommon side effects of Infant Gaviscon:
Infant Gaviscon is a thickening agent, so excessive administration may cause a mass in the infants stomach, a Gavisconoma. If your infants stomach becomes bloated, cease use of Infant Gaviscon and see a doctor.
