Indication of Magicul:
Magicul is a medication used to treat a number of diseases and symptoms caused by having too much acid in the stomach. These include: Gastric and duodenal ulcers (short-term therapy)Maintenance treatment in the case of recurrent duodenal ulcergastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and its symptoms ? including heartburn (short-term therapy only)Zollinger-Ellison syndromeScleroderma oesophagitis
Action of Magicul:
Magicul contains Cimetidine, a drug that blocks the stomach?s ability to produce acid. This reduces the amount of acid in the stomach and reduces symptoms such as heartburn and reflux. It also reduces the amount of stress on the stomach and duodenal walls and helps in the treatment of ulcers.
Dose Advice of Magicul:
Acute gastric or duodenal ulceration800mg at bedtime; or400mg in the morning plus 400mg at bedtime; or200mg three times daily plus 400mg at bedtime These regimes should be continued for 4 weeks, after which most patients are healed Some patients may require an extra 2-4 weeks therapy. The daily dose may be increased to a maximum of 1600mg (400mg four times daily).Maintenance treatment for recurrent ulceration is 400mg at bedtime, with regular review recommended Zollinger-Ellison syndrome200mg three times daily plus 400mg at bedtime.Dose may be increased to 1600 or even 2000mg if necessary.GORD800mg at bedtime or in divided doses if desired Treat for no longer than 12 weeks. Heartburn or other GORD symptoms200mg up to four times a day (not exceeding 800mg)Scleroderma oesophagitis1200mg daily in divided dosesImportantly, these patients may also suffer renal impairment (see Specific considerations for dosage adjustments).

The following side effects may be expected in 1 in 100 patients: - Headache- Constipation- Diarrhoea- Flatulence- Nausea and vomiting- Tiredness- Rash- Aching muscles or joints
Uncommon side effects of Magicul:
The following side effects have been found to occur in between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1000 patients: - Depression- Severe skin rash- Hair loss
