Nexium - Basic Information
Indication of Nexium:
Nexium is used for different conditions: Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) This occurs when acid in the stomach washes back into the food pipe.Treatment or prevention of gastrointestinal symptoms caused by NSAIDs.Helicobacter pylori related ulcers (in combination with antibiotics) This is an ulcer caused by a bacterium called helicobacter pylori. Nexium and the antibiotics work together to eradicate the bacteria and allow the ulcer to heal.Action of Nexium:
Nexium contains esomeprazole. Esomeprazole works by reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach, giving relief from the symptoms and allowing time for the ulcer to heal.Dose Advice of Nexium:
It is important you notify your doctor if you are planning to become or are currently pregnant (Nexium is ADEC Pregnancy Category B3) or are breastfeeding. It is also important that you notify your doctor if you have any health conditions or are taking any other medications as your doctor may need to examine the risks and benefits of using this medication for you. The tablets should be taken whole without crushing or chewing them. However, if you have swallowing difficulties, place the tablet in a glass of water until it breaks into pellets. Mix well and drink the liquid with pellets immediately or within 30 minutes. Take the dose at the same time each day to obtain the best effect, and to help you remember to take it.
