Ordine - Basic Information

 

Indication of Ordine:

Morphine is indicated in for the following; Relief of moderate to severe acute and chronic pain Cough suppressionRelief of severe dyspnoeaTreatment of acute pulmonary oedemaTreatment of diarrhoea

Action of Ordine:

Morphine is an opioid medication. Opioids act on opioid receptors in the nervous system to reduce the sensation of pain. As well as relieving pain, Morphine also decreases breathing and causes constipation

Dose Advice of Ordine:

Patients should be given the lowest dose of morphine, which will keep them free of pain at all times. Dose adjustments should be based on the patient degree of pain reliefAdults. The initial starting dose is 5 mg every four hoursThe usual dose is 5 to 20 mg every four hours. Patients may develop tolerance to Ordine and the dose may need to be increased in order to control the pain.Elderly patients or patients with lung, liver or kidney function impairment and patients on certain medications may require lower dosesChildren. 0.1 to 0.2 mg/kg every four hours
