Pamisol - Basic Information

 

Indication of Pamisol:

Pamisol is used in the treatment of following conditions: High calcium levels in blood caused by cancerPagets disease of the boneBone cancer spread from breast or bone marrow cancer

Action of Pamisol:

Pamisol contains an active drug called pamidronate. Pamidronate works by preventing calcium from coming out of bones, therefore reducing the risk of fractures as well as maintaining normal levels of calcium in the blood. This is important for some cancers as they can cause calcium to come out of the bone, making the bone weaker and increasing the risk of fractures and pain.

Dose Advice of Pamisol:

Pamisol is only available via prescription from your doctor. It is important that you notify your doctor if you are planning to become or are currently pregnant (Pamisol is an ADEC category B3 drug) or breastfeeding. It is also important that you notify your doctor if you have any kidney, heart, thyroid or any other health conditions, as your doctor may need to examine the risks and benefits of using this medication for you. Your doctor will prescribe the most appropriate dose for you. Pamisol is given via a slow infusion into your veins.

Common side effects of Pamisol:

All medicines have side effects. Some side effects can be serious, but the most common ones are mild. Common side effects occurring in more than 1% of patients prescribed Pamisol include: FeverFlu-like symptomsInjection site reaction such as redness, swelling and painHeadacheMuscle painBone painNausea and vomitingGenerally feeing unwell

Uncommon side effects of Pamisol:

These are some side effects that occur in less than 1% of patients. Do not be alarmed by this list. A patient will not necessarily experience any of these: DiarrhoeaRashEyesight problemsDifficulty urinating / blood present in urineMuscle spasmsAllergic reactionsSwelling of lower legs (ankles and feet)Consult your doctor if you experience any of the above symptoms, or any other unusual or abnormal symptoms that concern you.
