Pethidine Hydrochloride - Basic Information

Indication of Pethidine Hydrochloride:

Pethidine hydrochloride is a powerful drug used to relieve severe or constant pain which cannot be controlled by any other pain relievers.It can also be used before painful operations or during childbirth to reduce the pain.

Action of Pethidine Hydrochloride:

Pethidine consists of an active ingredient known as pethidine hydrochloride. This agent belongs to a group of medicine known as narcotic analgesics (opioid pain-relievers). Pethidine acts on specific opioid receptors in the brain, blocking the delivery of pain messages. In doing so, pethidine decreases the brains awareness of the pain, thus providing pain relief.

Dose Advice of Pethidine Hydrochloride:

Pethidine is injected either under the skin (subcutaneously), into a vein (intravenously) or into a muscle (intramuscularly) by your doctor.When you are receiving the injection, its best to be lying down.Avoid driving and operating dangerous machinery until the day following the last dose of pethidine.Avoid drinking alcohol - the effects can be increased by pethidine.For further information on the appropriate dose for your condition, contact your doctor.
