Serevent Inhaler and Accuhaler - Basic Information

 

Indication of Serevent Inhaler and Accuhaler:

- Used for maintenance treatment of asthma in patients receiving inhaled or oral corticosteroids. - Maintenance treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Action of Serevent Inhaler and Accuhaler:

- Relax bronchial smooth muscle by stimulating beta 2 adrenoreceptors, thus increasing airway diameter- Onset of action of 10 to 20 minutes- Long duration of action (>12hours)

Dose Advice of Serevent Inhaler and Accuhaler:

Adult, Child > 4 years- MDI/DPI: 50mcg twice daily, up to 100mcg twice daily in more severe airways obstruction in adults- Do not use this drug to relieve symptoms of an asthma attack; use short acting reliever instead

Common side effects of Serevent Inhaler and Accuhaler:

TremorPalpitationsHeadache

Uncommon side effects of Serevent Inhaler and Accuhaler:

- Increased heart rate (which can also lead to paroxysmal tachyarrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation or paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia)- Muscle cramps- Agitation- Hyperactivity in children- Insomnia- Hyperglycaemia (high blood sugar) and hypokalaemia (low blood potassium) when drug taken in high doses
