Seroquel - Basic Information


Indication of Seroquel:

Seroquel is used to treat the following mental conditions: SchizophreniaAcute mania associated with bipolar I disorder

Action of Seroquel:

Seroquel contains a drug called quetiapine. Quetiapine is an antipsychotic which works by changing the balance of chemicals in the brain, improving symptoms of certain mental conditions affecting thinking, feelings and behaviour.

Dose Advice of Seroquel:

Seroquel is available via prescription from your doctor.It is important that you notify your doctor if you are planning to become or are currently pregnant (Seroquel is an ADEC pregnancy category B3 drug) or breastfeeding. It is also important you notify your doctor if you have Parkinsons disease or any other health conditions, as your doctor may need to examine the risks and benefits of using this medication for you. Take the dose at the same time each day to obtain the best effect, and to help you remember it. Doses vary on the condition being treated Your doctor will prescribe the most appropriate dose for you. This medicine may cause dizziness, especially if you stand up quickly. If you are affected, sit or lie down. You can avoid this by standing or sitting up slowly. This medicine may affect mental alertness, causing confusion. If affected, it is important you do not drive or operate machinery.

Common side effects of Seroquel:

All medicines have side effects. Some side effects can be serious, but the most common ones are mild. Common side effects occurring in more than 1% of patients prescribed Seroquel include: DrowsinessDizzinessIrregular or fast heart beatDry mouthConstipationFeeling weakFaintingConsult your doctor if you experience any side effects.

Uncommon side effects of Seroquel:

Uncommon side effects that occur in less than 1% of patients. Do not be alarmed by this list. A patient will not necessarily experience any of these: Slight weight gainAllergic reactionsSeizuresAbnormal muscle movementsConsult your doctor if you experience any of the above symptoms, or any other unusual or abnormal symptoms.
