Indication of Tertroxin:
The thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped gland located just below the larynx (voice box). It consists of two lobes that sit either side of the trachea (windpipe), joined by a central mass of tissue called the isthmus. The thyroid gland is responsible for the production and storage of the thyroid hormones, which regulate a) oxygen use and basal metabolic rate, b) cellular metabolism, and c) growth and development. Tertroxin is a naturally occurring thyroid hormone. It is rapidly effective and more potent than thyroid hormones, and is used to treat coma in patients with an underactive thyroid (called myxoedema), to manage severe thyroid deficiency, and when the levels of thyroid hormones are too low following therapy with other thyroid replacement hormones.
Action of Tertroxin:
Lithyronine sodium is a naturally occurring thyroid hormone. Its biological action is similar to thyroxine, however its effects develop in a few hours and disappear within 24 to 48hours of stopping treatment. Thyroxine is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland that has several actions such as a) oxygen use and basal metabolic rate, b) cellular metabolism, and c) growth and development.
Dose Advice of Tertroxin:
Dose of Tertroxin should be divided and given two to three times daily. MYXOEDEMA: Unless rapid effect is needed, it is recommended to start with doses of 10 to 20
